Images Of America Pigeon Forge
Local life long resident Veta King’s new book “Images Of America Pigeon Forge” are now available in area gift stores and the Pigeon Forge Library. Not a plug for her book but valuable information for those loving photos and history on everything Smoky Mountains.
I was shocked to see the Pigeon Forge - Gatlinburg Spurr, roadway between the two cities, photo from 1930 showing just one dirt and gravel roadway on one side of the river. Other pictures depict the Old Mill, which was actually turbine driven, the wheel was later added for decoration.
Many outsiders seem to think of “all” mountain folk as simple people having very little, this was not always the case as photos and stories of Pigeon Forge trickle from the book’s pages.

Smokin BBQ Pigeon Forge Tennessee
Just off the Pigeon Forge Parkway, next to light 10 in Pigeon Forge, is Smokin Ed’s BBQ. Recently opened, Smokin Ed’s BBQ is sure to give other Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg BBQ eateries a run for their taste buds.
The owners, Ed and Ashley Kilgour, recently moved to the Smoky Mountains area and seem very at home in Pigeon Forge. They brought with them some distinguished BBQ honors. Their BBQ was voted in the top 20 in the nation on CNN.com’s I-Reports. This gives them plenty to crow about, they are one of three in the top 20 ranking within all of Tennessee!
The Kilgour’s give credit to the quality of the barbecue to the spices used, hickory wood, old-fashioned barrels cooked in, and the method used dating back to their great grandfather.
The barbecue meats are cooked 12-18 hours in a smoker located next to the restaurant. They have their own seasoning and make their own barbecue sauce. The slaw is made from a recipe from Ashley Kilgour’s grandmother.
They opened their first Smokin Ed’s BBQ in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They franchised and sold that location, after eight years, and now visitors and locals alike get to enjoy a unique family operated BBQ restaurant. Mom, Dad and the kids do their parts to make sure the food is great and customers are cared for. We wish them great success and thank them for choosing Pigeon Forge as their new home.
Saddle Up Pigeon Forge Tennessee
Saddle Up, a Pigeon Forge annual event, brings western flair and early Smoky Mountain settlers flair to the city of Pigeon Forge Tennessee.
Wrapping up Winterfest 2010 festivities sponsored by the city of Pigeon Forge, is Saddle Up Week. This year Saddle Up runs from the 25th-28th. The annual Saddle Up event brings well known Cowboy poets, western style singers, and chuckwagon cooks to the city of Pigeon Forge, in the scenic Tennessee Smoky Mountains.
Pigeon Forge Movie Theater At Waldens Landing
Pigeon Forge is soon to get a new movie theater, it will be at Waldens Landing.
Seemingly forever, the movie theater in Sevierville Highway 66 has done business with no competition. Several developers have come and went with promises to build a movie theater, which for one reason or the other never happened.
Waldens Landing has received final approval from Pigeon Forge city officials, after meeting the necessary city regulations for parking spaces. Waldens Landing reached an agreement with Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson to use a portion of their back parking lot, this gave Waldens Landing the necessary parking spaces.
Waldens Landing movie theater is planned to move from start to completion in 180 days, thus it looks as though the new movie theater will be in place for this summer tourist season. Waldens Landing developers plans seem to include the latest in movie theater equipage.
I’m sure several of the locals, as well as visitors, to the Tennessee Smoky Mountains look forward to not only great movies, but the idea that competition may keep prices at a reasonable range.
Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Rock Slide Update
Update on Spur traffic detour
A detour to allow two way traffic on the Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Spur is now operational after a rock slide closed the southbound lanes. Traffic heading south from Pigeon Forge will be directed on to the northbound side of the Spur. This southbound traffic will continue a short distance to the King Branch bridge and at that point will cross over to the south lanes of the Spur. Traffic headed north on the Spur will be funneled to one lane at the King Branch exchange. Although temporary variable message signs are in place and the traffic lanes are separated by a line of cones, motorists should use extreme caution while passing through the detour area. The detour is working just fine with no traffic delays at this time.
Pigeon Forge officials will be responsible for the slide clean up.

Pigeon Forge Events To Come
Walden’s Landing is still working with city planners to get the parking worked out so they can merge a few of their store spaces and build state of the art indoor movie theaters.
Gold Wing Road Riders annual event and parade to take place at teh Grand Majestic Theater April 22-24 in Pigeon Forge.
Remember, there was a rock slide on the Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Spur today, Jan 25th, and traffic may be slow traveling South into Gatlinburg. They are re-routing traffic and are not sure what the cleanup time will be. Will pas updates as we get them.
New Tennessee Pigeon Forge Car Shows
Pigeon Forge hosts several antique car shows annually. The biggest known are the Shades Of The Past and The Grand Rod Run. This year Pigeon Forge plans to add two more car shows to the agenda.
Last year the F-100 Antique Truck show was purchased by a group. This show has occurred in Pigeon Forge before, it has also been in Knoxville, TN as well. They have requested the use of Pigeon Forge’s new empty 40 acre parking lot as a staging area for 2 shows this year.
If approved, and most assuredly it will be now as Bell Island is dead for the time being, the Annual F-100 Supernationals will have their show May 13-15 and the All Chevy Supernationals from June 11-13.
Lets see how this works and if the city spends more than it makes. If the earlier discussed fees remain the same, for the parking lot, sponsors stand to make out big time over the city. Where’s our sign boys.
