Smokies Baseball Homerun Summer
Comming to the Smoky Mountains on vacation looking for great entertainment fun for the family! Well we are very fortunate to have Smokies Baseball on our doorsteps at Smokies Park.
Nope this is not an advertisement and by no means am I a sports nut. It would just be wrong not to share this information with others whom come to the Smoky Mountains looking for family fun and adventure on a tight budget. How about parents wanting to step back to their memories as a child having gone to a big baseball game with a family member. Maybe they would like to share that experience with their children while on vacation.
Remember the thrill of those “on the edge of your seat” plays and singing along with ”Take Me Out to the Ball Game”? How about the aroma of hot dogs, peanuts, and popcorn or the sight of children chasing the chicken, and swapping bases? Smokies Baseball Park has really livened up baseball with entertaining games the children participate in and adults can sit back to enjoy. For less than $10 a person, watching the game in real life is what its all about. Though having never caught a baseball personally at any of the games, it is fun to watch the faces of younger children having done so. It also touches the heart when an adult struggles their best to catch an errand ball, only to generously pass it on to a less fortunate child. Yes, over 3 hours of fun for less than $10 each, that’s a heck of a deal when compared to many events held throughout the Smoky Mountains.
While in town, remember to check out a great baseball game at Smokies Park, next to exit 407 Sevierville Tennessee!
Dunkin Donouts Makes Splash In Sevierville
Dunkin Donuts recently opened in Sevierville Tennessee and the small Smoky Mountains donut shop has already made a big splash with locals and visitors alike.
Aside for the wonderful fresh products sold each and every day and the wonderful smells permeating the air for passers by on Winfield Dunn Parkway (Hwy 66), it is a tastier fact to know that the owners opened their doors by giving back to their community from go!
The Sevierville Dunkin Donuts owners and their staff collect tips at the counters, the tips are forwarded to various local charity groups. In addition, all leftover donuts and baked goods are given to the Smoky Mountains Children’s Home daily.
There is something to be said for these great business owners and other businesses in the area that seem to want to give back to their community. Seems the big difference between them and corporate owned companies is one gives from the heart continuous while the other gives only when the spotlight is on them. Bravo for the staff and ownership of the Sevierville Dunkin Donuts!

Sevierville Shopping Center Back In Business
Many locals and guest to the Tennessee Smoky Mountains have enjoyed Books-A-Million and several other smaller specialty stores that dotted Governor’s Crossing, however the economy made its impact and several shops closed. Governor’s Crossing was looking really bare and drawing little interest. A new company moved into Sevierville and working hard they are well on the way to breathing new life back into Governor’s Crossing.
Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store has signed a lease and hopes to be open late summer to early fall. Combining several smaller stores, Jo-Ann Fabric will occupy 12,000 square feet and fill a large void felt by all whom frequented Old Time Pottery, in Pigeon Forge.
Books-A-Million, VF Sportswear, and Teacher’s Pet will remain in the shopping center and Sally Beauty Supply is scheduled to open in the next 45 days. This is great news, we can only hope the former NASCAR restaurant and the Gem Mining facility will find new life soon.

Tennessee Antifreeze Haley Ham Law
Tennessee has enacted a new Antifreeze Law, takes effect today January 1, 2010. The new Haley Ham Antifreeze Law requires manufacturers selling antifreeze in the state of Tennessee to add a bitter agent. The antifreeze bitter agent helps to protect children and pets from injesting the sweet smelling and tasting antifreeze. Injesting antifreeze has resulted in over 10,000 animals and 1,400 children being poisoned annually throughout the U.S. Thousands of these cases result in death. The new Tennessee Haley Ham Antifreeze Law will help reduce the numbers of antifreeze poisonings and resulting deaths across Tennessee.
The law was named after Haley Ham, Sevierville Tennessee, who’s two dogs were intentionally poisoned with antifreeze. She reported the incident to legislators, attended committee meetings, spoke with media, and pushed for legislation to protect defenseless animals and children. Manufacturers have been contacted with the expectation of compliance. Violations can result in a Class “C” misdemeanor.
Haley Ham, many Tennesseans Thank You! Your years of dedication have given Tennessee a truly meaningful law with grave impact in protecting defensless children and animals.
We hope seeing other states enacting the Haley Ham Law or similar litigation. For more info visit http://www.TN.gov/agriculture/regulatory/antifreeze.html .
Winterfest Smoky Mountains Christmas Lights
Winterfest has become a big thing for the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville all decked in lights along city streets and many businesses as well.
Each year my wife and I take our grandchildren off the beaten path that so many tourist see to the King home. Just off Hwy416, about 5 miles from the Sevierville city limits, sits a the spectacular display of lights and animated characters. Christmas mouses hard at work preparing their Christmas meal and elves working to ready toys for good boys and girls. So much more adorns the front of the King’s home. My wife and I have always felt this home’s decorations top those of the three cities.
This year we added a new venture to our Christmas lights search. About one mile from downtown Pigeon Forge on Sugar Hollow Road, between Cracker Barrel and Wood Fire Grill, we discovered a fantastic Christmas display of animated lights.
The private residence of Nick Miller, an 18 year old, his mother Kay and stepfather John Pittman is adorned with a fabulous Christmas spirit. You enter their drive and pass under lit arches slowly passing various dazzling light displays until you reach the front of their home. At the very front stands a magnificent forest of light animated trees. Nick Miller spent days programming and honing the lights to favorite Christmas tunes. The yard is filled with about 100,000 lights set in a Christmas magical wonderland that young and old can’t help but fill the spirit of Christmas. What devotion these three gave in such a wondrous gift, and free for the public to enjoy.
Equally impresive is the mass front glass windows of the Pittman/Miller home. You peer into a home filled throughout with Christmas adornment of great proportions that steals your breath. The grandchildren just loved their home, my wife and I went further in recognizing the vast expense, skill, and hard work they excersized in this majestic Christmas display. We far recognize they have beaten their neighboring cities in building a “Christmas Wonderland.” We eventually had to leave, so we slowly departed down the drive passing the twinkle of many more smaller light displays. What a memory we all enjoyed, we hope this wonderful display will be an annual event.
Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville would do good to observe these two treasured displays. When I see what great achievement two private families can do with only their personal funds, I can only imagine what could transpire if the three cities joined hands in the spirit of Christmas. Imagine the three cities working together and using Patriot Park to build a Christmas Wonderland of magical lights and animation. What a glorious show of Christmas spirit they could achieve. The Tennessee Smoky Mountains could earn the title “The South’s Winterfest Winter Wonderland Destination”, sure to win rave reviews and attendance for all three cities. Well, there is always hope.
Tennessee Smoky Mountains Zipline Galore
Seems zip lines are the trend and, everyone seems to be in a rush to capitalize.
First we saw Wahoo ZipLines build a facility on the back roads of Sevierville, next Dollywood Theme Park added zip lines under a lease with another company, along side this was Smoky Mountain Paintball off Chapman Highway in Sevierville.
Gatlinburg has little room for new attractions, but not to be left out Gatlinburg zip lines were installed just up the road from the Gatlinburg Space Needle. We here more zip lines are soon to come in and around Gatlinburg.
Now on the Pigeon Forge agenda is Zip Lines of the Smokies. They are seeking to use land owned along the PIgeon Forge Parkway to establish a sales office for Zip Lines of the Smokies. The actual location for their zip line operation would be on Mill Creek Road. The zip line site seems to have gone approved without a hitch but the ticket sales office has hit a slight snag. Surely this will unsnarl itself and the mountains will have yet another zip line.
Maybe Sevier County Smoky Mountains Tennessee can establish itself as a “destination” under the billing of ”USA Zip Line Capital.”
