Smoky Mountains National Park Road Closing

Clingmans Dome Road will close this next Tueday for the winter season.  However when the road opens there will be many new and exciting changes.

The road and parking lot will undergo improvements.  Just as importantly, the 60 year old toilet systems will be replaced with vault toilets on December 2nd.  The new toilets will be installed at the west end of the parking area and will accommodate all visitors including those with disabilities.

The existing comfort station facilities will be reused as a seasonal visitor contact station and Great Smoky Mountains Association sales outlet (April - November).  The facility will permit visitors to receive training on key park issues such as air quality and forest health.  Product sales will support training with books and other educational materials.

  Hillbilly Awareness 1. Don't be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store. 2. "Mom'n'em" is not one person. When someone asks, "How's your Mom'n'em?" They are referring to the whole family. 3. Remember, "You all" is singular, "All ya'll" is plural, and "All y'alls" is plural possessive. 4. Get used to hearing, "You ain't from arouncheer, are ya?" 5. If you hear "Hey, y'all, watch this," move out of the way there's something stupid about to happen. 6. Hillbilly's aint quite figured out turn signals so they are a novelty. 7. When you see a hillbilly driving 15 mph down the middle of the road, remember that most folks learn to drive on a tractor and the rest learned to drive while hunting from the road. 8. Do not be surprised to find that 10 year olds own their own shotguns and are proficient marksmen. Or that their Mammas taught them how to aim. 9. Duct tape is not only part of every survival kit; it is the WHOLE kit. 10. If you hear a turkey gobble, get out of the way. "Hillbillies" view a turkey gobble like city folk to payoff bells at a slot machines only da hillbilly has a gun.
