Gatlinburg Web Cam atop the Gatlinburg Space Needle. The Gatlinburg Web Cam is back in operation!

Several emails flooded in moments after the Gatlinburg cam went offline.   A localized power outage caused Gatlinburg computer equipment to fail and thus web cam connections to the outside world were down.  Working with the IT staff, all systems have been restored.

What a great time to view downtown Gatlinburg and the Tennessee Smoky Mountains from atop the 407 foot Gatlinburg Space Needle, and all from your computer!  Visibility is great and it looks as though temperatures will stay mild for the rest of the week.

Be sure to use the “camera” icon to the left bottom of the viewing box to take photos.  You can take photos whether it is you or someone else operating the Gatlinburg web cam at the time.  The photos you take are yours to save to your computer, email to others or post to your Blog-Facebook site.

Tennessee Smoky Mountains Turns White

Snow is now pouring over the Tennessee Smoky Mountains and starting to blanket the mountains with a beautiful white.  Schools have let out and if the snow continues, the children are sure to have fun.

Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort is doing well.  The snow and cold temperatures have managed to keep the snow covered Smokies live with visitors.  There are several ski slopes now open at Ober Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg is always fun to shop and explore, especially when all the surrounding mountain sides are covered in snow.  What a great time to walk about with friends, family, and a warm marshmallow laden mug of steamy hot chocolate.

Visiting the Smoky Mountains for vacation or coming to Ober Gatlinburg to snow ski, check out our Live Gatlinburg Web Cam for current snow and weather conditions.

Tennessee Smoky Mountains Zipline Galore

Seems zip lines are the trend and, everyone seems to be in a rush to capitalize.

First we saw Wahoo ZipLines build a facility on the back roads of Sevierville, next Dollywood Theme Park added zip lines under a lease with another company, along side this was Smoky Mountain Paintball off Chapman Highway in Sevierville.

Gatlinburg has little room for new attractions, but not to be left out Gatlinburg zip lines were installed just up the road from the Gatlinburg Space Needle.  We here more zip lines are soon to come in and around Gatlinburg.

Now on the Pigeon Forge agenda is Zip Lines of the Smokies.  They are seeking to use land owned along the PIgeon Forge Parkway to establish a sales office for Zip Lines of the Smokies.  The actual location for their zip line operation would be on Mill Creek Road.  The zip line site seems to have gone approved without a hitch but the ticket sales office has hit a slight snag.  Surely this will unsnarl itself and the mountains will have yet another zip line.

Maybe Sevier County Smoky Mountains Tennessee can establish itself as a “destination” under the billing of ”USA Zip Line Capital.”

Gatlinburg Christmas Parade float by Cabin Fever Vacations. Tennessee Gatlinburg Parade is December 4th, 2009. Gatlinburg Parade-  The Gatlinburg Parade starts at 7pm Friday December 4th.  Many local and out of state companies are working hard to provide floats immersed in the Christmas spirit.  Along with the floats are plenty talented performers just waiting to share their Christmas spirit!

So, no bah-humbug, drive safely and join in the Gatlinburg Christmas festivities with family and friends.

If you are unable to make it to the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade, be sure to catch the parade on our Gatlinburg Space Needle Web Cam.  If the television station is not using the cam, you can control the web cam from your computer.  Zoom in and watch your favorite floats or performers.  Enjoy, and have a wonderful Christmas.  Remember those less fortunate than yourself and share the spirit of Christmas giving.  Amazing what a hug or a kind word will do to brighten an other’s day.

Smoky Mountain Roadway Congestion - The recent rock slide, along I-40 near the TN - NC border, has caused many visitors to the Tennessee Smokies to seek alternate routes.  This in turn has slightly increased traffic going over the mountains between Gatlinburg TN and Cherokee NC.  The traffic does not seem to be an issue during the weekdays and increases on weekends, especially holiday weekends.

So as weather tends to get colder, fog rolls in more often and possible snow in higher elevations approaches, stay safe and be prepared to add time to your travels.  The route is very scenic and enjoyable but not if you feel rushed under abnormal traffic loads.
